Expo 2020

From 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, served as the host city for Expo 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Arab Emirates, the date was rescheduled from October 20, 2020, to April 10, 2021. Despite being postponed, the name Expo 2020 was retained by the organizers for marketing and branding reasons. Over 24 million people visited the event over its six-month run. On November 27, 2013, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) general assembly in Paris selected Dubai as the event’s host.

A 438-hectare (1083-acre) tract between the cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, close to Dubai’s southern border with Abu Dhabi, served as the major site of Expo 2020 Dubai. The American firm HOK created the master plan, which was structured around the Al Wasl central square and three sizable thematic areas. One of Expo 2020’s sub-themes, Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability,” was the focus of each one. Orascom and BESIX built the infrastructure for the 4.38 km2 Expo 2020 site. An emergency centre was at the location, complete with an isolation room, an emergency treatment area, ambulances, and helicopter services.
