Previous Workshop – Delhi Architecture Festival
With design exhibitions, presentations and knowledge sharing with expert speakers, the aim of Delhi Architecture Festival were to overwhelm the professionals by the architectural inspiration that DAF had to offer. The architectural festival highlighted research and projects that explored the reciprocity and synergy between design and implementation, the digital and the physical, and between digital software and material logic. This one of its kind architectural festival brought together designers, researchers, and practitioners who engage, question and aspire to stretch these boundaries to share, display and exhibit their ideas to the rest of the world. The speaker interactions and the publication of its proceedings provided a major channel of communication among experts in the field of architecture.
Previous Workshop – Smart Realities
Department of Urban Design at School of Planning and Architecture has been active leader in acknowledging the role of designers in City Making. This also engages in creating platforms for multidisciplinary interactions and talk over the process of urbanization and city making. Some of these efforts are done through workshops, ‘Smart Realities’ is one such program. It was done with the collaboration of Korean Culture Centre and Studio AA.
“Smart Realities” is a story of the collective contribution of a group of students and recent graduates from the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, landscape architecture, conservation, urban planning, building engineering and management, who defied their disciplinary silos, grueling work schedules and much more, to engage with “real” issues of our cities. Issues that we usually do not confront, but talk about, discuss but not act upon. Through sustained critical inquiry and creative exploration of the realities that surround us in our cities today, this team of inter-disciplinary student groups along with a handful of faculty and professionals joined hands and put minds together, for a cause.
This exhibition essentially revolves around community space design. It involves the study and design of spaces for community amenities and utilities for less catered settlements in Delhi, applicable as well, in other cities across the country. Both the built space of the proposed public amenity (viz. public toilet, waste management center, play area, learning center, etc.) as well as surrounding open space and associated linkages are taken up for design exploration. Appropriate technology inputs and industrial design for environment friendly, low-cost choices integrated with space design solutions offer a holistic, multi-dimensional design approach at all scales of application.
