Chris Fein with Forward Design | Architecture was tasked to design an extensive interior remodel of this Kansas City ranch. The house was tired and dated. The overall project was episodic in both plan and material expression.
Project Name -2202 Residence

Completion date– 2017
Location– Mission Hills, Kansas, United States
The remodel sought to unify the project in aesthetics while reworking the plan to solve the client’s functional needs. The living areas are conceived as a series of discreet rooms that are both visually and spatially linked through the central circulation core.
On the ground floor FD|A reworked the plan to eliminate a small bedroom and create the master closet, bath, and centrally accessed laundry room. An oversized corridor was modified to create a central office space. This area is concealed within the poche of the hall behind full-height concealed doors.
In the basement, it was decided to celebrate the unusual fact that the original house utilizes a poured concrete frame and floor slabs. This frame and ceiling are left exposed and all new partitions are treated as infill within this frame. The basement contains a Media room, a play area, a kitchenette, a full bath and two guest bedrooms.
