Rise of architecture with the evolution of technology.

The world as we know it is hugely dependent on the enormous growth of technology. Architecture is not an exception. Architects have various ways now to render a design, making the design process easy and more confidently executing it on site. The science of designing and construction has grown over the years according to the needs of humans.

We have grown from having mobile phones to smartphones, and security offices to biometric sensors. Digitalization has become the new hero in our life, presently making it easier for people to live, work, and connect. Technology has drastically advanced with the intent of architecture. From visualization of the concept into design to the design itself communicating to the user, architecture has also evolved. Is technology steering the control in architecture? If yes, how has it changed?

How have the standards changed in designing? | Evolution of technology

Architects are specialists in planning and designing the space efficiently so that people can occupy comfortably. Comfort level is different for every individual. It might depend on temperature, site location, ventilation, interior planning, lighting, etc. Problem-solving is another aspect of good design. As an architect, it is important to bring aesthetics with logical and critical thinking to ensure comfort.

Technology has proved that there are no limits to imagination leading to the possibility of a spectrum of design iterations which is why there are many modern architectural masterpieces around us with brilliant solutions to improve building performance.

Previously, architecture aided a particular user group who opted for specialized functions. Now designers aim to satisfy all users by following universal standards. These standards when put forward, makes the plan more complex but inclusive to people of all needs.

Architectural span before technology

Before the boom in technology, paper and pencils were the guides and architects used to hand draft designs and work out concepts, with no way to know if they would be workable but now, the game has changed. Architects now have the provision to understand how the building will work with the concepts and the form itself, they can work on the ideas according to the building information modeling. Through the method of trial and error, design options can be tested safely without worrying about the cost.

Before technology, architects studied the site and context to bring a meaningful design to comprehend the site. Often some young architects fail to realize the strength of the site and eventually fail to get good designs.

Architectural Technology | Evolution of technology

Architectural technology was introduced to improve the comfort level and help visualize the design to overcome certain constraints of building performance, safety and security, fire, and mechanical services. Several design strategies are planned out by the architects, and technological advances in modern architecture support them. Architects use computer-aided drawings, renders, and graphics for design representations, making them a part of the design process as well. It helps the work to progress faster which results in early deliverables. Augmented Reality (AR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual Reality (VR), holograms, and generative and parametric designs are only a few of the advanced technology used in the field of architecture.

The downside of the involvement of technology in construction is that it is expensive and not affordable to all. Technology often also restricts young architects to visualize and think freely, hence shortening their thinking process.

Architecture compliments a healthy lifestyle

The evolution of architecture is the result of constant changes in lifestyle and design standards. People in today’s world are busy meeting their ends, so they prefer a large space that can accommodate all their functions. The early architecture was mostly about ornate designs which might be intimidating to the viewer, modern architecture focuses on the functions included with minimal designs and the overall quality and performance of the structure itself. Low energy consumption, predicting climatic response to the building, automated safety, and high service maintenance are the notable features of today’s buildings. People also pinpoint their lifestyle alongside the sustainable side, trying an eco-friendly approach in the built environment, to bring a positive impact. Thankfully, with the interconnection of architecture and technology, we have only fewer problems to regard for.

Insight into the future | Evolution of technology

Architecture has a great way ahead to improve and be involved in human life. It represents how we view the physical and built environment. The future of our homes and cities relies on the evolving technology around us. Pairing the right designs with right techniques with advanced technology is what gives us building marvels. Smart systems and sustainable methods are now widely celebrated. While designing, it is necessary to consider the ease of usage, accessibility to the facilities, and the relation of the building with the surrounding environment.

People are now integrating these systems into their homes and offices, where they spend majority of their time. Investing time and effort in picking the best materials, building solutions, and running prototype models gradually helps to realize the best building performance.
