Mimya co. (MM++ architects) founded in 2009 by architects My An Pham Thi and Michael Charruault in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The core beliefs of the practice represent their design outcomes to create spaces for everyday life into work of beauty, Custom build – free of ready-made solutions and open to collaborative creative processes. They undertake a range of projects in size and cost in residential and boutique hospitality with styles ranging from traditional to present contemporary. Their designs involve affordability and adaptability to the environment and context while creating a unique experience for the inhabitants of the buildings designed by them.
1. Pattern House
The residence located in District 2, HCMC, Vietnam contains a strong pattern facade which is broken by niches and openings of terrace/balcony garden on every floor. The project built in 2018 consists of peculiar pattern choices for the flooring with minimal furniture aesthetic that stand-out from solid wall colours. The Jacuzzi area consists of a mini-garden that receives light from an elliptically placed skylight opening that draws in required sunlight with choice of the inner wall colour being yellow.
2. Timber House
A strong contrast of wood and stone cladding comprise the majority aesthetic of the residence that opens onto a spectacular panoramic view of the ocean and islands. The building completed in 2018 located at Nha Trang, Vietnam brings the open floor plans into a cohesive system with dominance of wood material and cladding used on the floor, ceiling or walls complemented with white and ivory coloured furniture in a minimal aesthetic setting.
3. Stone House
The name of the project suggests stone being the predominant material that blends in with the context of shoreline and islands around, the wood finish interiors keep the place warm and compliments the stone finish furniture in it. The striking white and wood spiral staircase classifies the open floor plan functionally with enough space between them. This project located in Nha Trang, Vietnam opens into the sit-out area and swimming pool that overlooks the scenic view of the ocean.
4. Tropical Holiday House with Woven Sliding Panels
The residence located in Tra Vinh, Vietnam transcends tropical vibes with traditional material and spaces designed to bring the essence of it yet giving the house a contemporary finish. The swimming pool and sit-out with garden around the house elevate the ambience of the space.
5. Town House with a Folding up Shutter
The project features a stunning folding-up shutter that opens up the formal living space onto the street outside while it also consists of a single door entrance. The three-storey compact design opens the plan with natural light through an atrium topped with a skylight; the interiors are minimal and effortless to give in the illusion of more breathing space than the actual on foot. The house stands out in district 7, HCMC, Vietnam for its bold contemporary block in white complimented by the large two-storey tall wooden fondling shutter.
6. Tropical Suburb House
The residence located in Nha Be District, HCMC, Vietnam exudes the rawness of material display between exposed brick and concrete that stays true to the structure; the interior and roof have tropical elements that bring out the authenticity of its name. The bathroom consists of an angular light and ventilation window that allows the spiritual feeling of tropical paradise giving space for the plants to grow next to the bathtub and the entire walls are painted green instinctive to nature in a contemporary setting of the house including the furniture design.
7. Oceaniques Villas
The villas design open every space looking outwards towards the beach and ocean at the edge of the site. The residence located in Mui Ne, Phan Thiet, Vietnam showcases the elegance of minimal design while incorporating tropical elements of waterbody and plants in the central spaces and niches. The entire form is simple in aesthetic stripped from any cladding and stands static painted in white.
8. VCCA CONTEMPORARY ART CENTER
The Building consists of an open floor plan with the choice to a neutral colour, white used for columns and walls and black for partition walls, moveable walls on wheels to allow re-setting of the entire centre based on the art displayed. The services for lighting and ventilation remain exposed but coloured in black that gives in the illusion of making them hide in plain sight. The place located in Hanoi, Vietnam consists of a central skylight dome above a checkered pattern structure that supports any central art piece to stand out that allows a play of light into the space.
9. PATIO HOUSE
The house located in District 7, HCMC, Vietnam exhibits different treatments of concrete on the floor, facade and the structure while every floor line is covered by steel beams that give it the contemporary edge. The open floor plan allows an oasis illusion incorporating a waterbody and tree that brings life into the large space and acts as a buffer between the functions of living and dining areas that receive ample light from the sky-light placed above the atrium.
10. LOTUS GUEST VILLA HO TRAM BEACH RESORT
The entire resort is designed to bring different elements into a cohesive theme that brings the traditional craftsmanship of wood in columns, partition walls and details into a contemporary vacation lifestyle allowing the architecture to speak of authentic roots to culture while presenting luxury to its inhabitants and visitors. The villa utilises wood as a commanding material to the space complimented with delicate furniture and details to allow the sense of warmth. A central courtyard and waterbody connects every room visually and allows ample area for people to congregate.
11. SUBURB HOUSE WITH SLIDING SHUTTER
The project consists of highly functional furniture layout suited for the needs of storage while the form remains in simple geometry. The residence located in An Phu, HCMC, Vietnam consists of a notable feature of sliding partition doors giving privacy to the road facing a large balcony. Vertical wooden strips make the structure of the sliding shutter with enough space between two stripes to allow light and ventilation into the family and bedroom spaces. The wall consisting of cantilever staircase displays peepholes in a square that allows natural light and air into the house.
12. PRIVATE VILLA RENOVATION
The building presents the brutal aesthetic relationship of concrete and brick as the envelope of the form; the interiors contradict the same with high-end material and finishing stating luxury. The house located in Thao Dien, HCMC, Vietnam positions itself in the centre of the site with a garden surrounding on all the sides complimenting the structure with a softer context along with a swimming pool.
13. PRIVATE VILLA
The residence situated in Dalat, Vietnam embodies the simple massiveness of its form in white overlooking the spectacular landscape around. The house consists of open floor plans with bare minimum furniture and interior work that allows a sense of breathing space visible outside by the inhabitants to feel the same inside. The large sit-out with wooden floor extends from the house to merge with the garden and nature around it to create a serene ambience.
14. PRIVATE HOUSE
A house designed to meet the highly functional needs of the clients with a large open floor plan consisting of a tropical courtyard brings in a calm tone to the sophistication of material and finishes to its interiors. The residence located in Go Vap District, HCMC, Vietnam does not project a dominant form but blends its interior and exterior seamlessly with minimal aesthetic that meets the cosmopolitan lifestyle.
15. MM HOUSE 2.0
The residence redefines traditional aesthetic and contemporary plans to transcend every space tailored to provide different experiences to its inhabitants. The project located in District 2, HCMC, Vietnam dominates the street by its massive built complemented with pockets of terrace gardens treated differently at every level. The mattress fits like a glove in the bedroom floor cut-out that stands out uniquely while blending that sense of openness from the walk-in closet behind to the balcony in front. The bold solid colours and finishes presents an idea of luxury blends with a quirky touch to design aesthetic.
