Shirish Beri and Associates is an architecture firm that fuses cognitive thinking with rules of sustainability. The philosophy with which Ar. Shirish Beri’s works have made an impact on the design that he and his firm produce. His work is free, spontaneous, as it is not bound by conditioning and constraints of a specific vogue or belief.
The design concepts evolve from the understanding of life and are also highly responsive to the site and the socio-cultural behavior-values. He, through his designs, primarily focuses on addressing the concerns of life and aid in contributing to a better quality of life.

1. Residential Vocational Training Centre, Sanjeevan Vidyalaya, Panchgani
This residential school or boarding school campus was designed based on the concept of creating a healthy balance between free interaction and disciplined segregation. The sloping site was the basis for the form development which resulted in a playful built form complying with the concept. The learning experience was enhanced by the inclusion of landscaped interaction spaces.
2. SDM Medical College, Dharwad
The concept for the medical college situated alongside a teaching hospital was to create spaces that can enhance learning possibilities. To implement the concept into actuality, the building has an entrance on both ground level as well as the first-floor level with inviting wide steps. The inside of the building is pierced with a beautiful circular skylight with landscaped courtyards, which creates a breezy ambiance as well as an interaction space.
3. Shri. Siddhivinayak Ganapati cancer hospital, Miraj
The main idea behind the designing of the hospital was to provide a “non-hospital” look and break the stereotypical environment of a hospital. This meant the inclusion of interactive spaces, play with textures, and provide good ventilation. Above all the element of environment played an important role in the realization of the idea as it provided a fresh outlook for the users.
4. Dr. D.Y Patil Hospital, Nerul, Navi Mumbai
The design process was started with the question “can our design contribute to good health?” This question was deemed important as the brief required building a space for around 1,000 outpatients and about 500 inpatients. The design parameters gave rise to the basic shape of the built form. To address the question, courtyards and the built spaces were arranged in an interlacing manner which also created short circulation linkages.
5. Tata Motors showroom + workshop, Kolhapur
The site is situated on the main Pune – Bengaluru Highway where high traffic flow is observed. The challenge that the site imposed was to ‘bring a design that would impart a dynamic image to an already known brand’. The façade was designed as such that it looked different at different times and angles.
6. Bharati Vidyapeeth’s regional office, Sangli
The design of the regional office at Sangli turned out to be challenging due to site constraints and being situated at a prime location. The barrier was overcome by setting the orientation of the built form diagonal to the road and making the building visually attractive by terracing the building.
7. National Centre for Cell Sciences, Pune
The NCCS is a basic applied research science institute interested in the front-line areas of biology. The design aimed at providing a sense of beauty, harmony, and order and give a new perspective to an institute heavily based on research work.
8. Laboratory for the conservation of endangered species, Hyderabad
The design of the project has been carved out of the site’s natural context. The 4-acre site had clusters of large rocks and boulders. The idea was to create a façade that would completely wipe out the modern-day man-made feature of a building.
9. Manasi and Shirish Beri’s Beach House, Deogad
The design is formulated from the symbiotic relationship between man and nature and the traditional way of lifestyle. The entire residence is sheltered under one single roof which is further divided into different functional spaces using low partition walls, curtains, etc. The project uses natural materials and aims at a sustainable way of living.
10. Residence for Malushte brothers, Ratnagiri
Malushte brothers were looking for an independent space that was very different from their present cramped up space. This gave the basic idea for the concept. Two identical floor plans were executed which were separated, yet united, by common open space. The different facades happened as one brother – Nilesh was given a living room with double height whereas Rajan was given a living room with a flat slab and terrace garden on top.
11. ‘Gumpha’ Bungalow renovation, Kolhapur
The renovation of the bungalow was taken up with a time gap of 45 years, and the difference in the interior spaces and the lifestyle then and now could be seen. To break through the style of locked up spaces, cluttered interiors that were there years ago, a lot of decluttering and simplification of spaces by use of open plans were implemented.
12. Green fingers school, Akluj
The design was approached with the idea of improving the learning possibilities through architecture. Following which spaces such as cafeteria, classrooms, libraries, etc. which were not separated instead were interconnected. Open courtyards which are maintained by students were put up and a transitional space-separated, spaces of different function.
13. Kolhapur Institute of Technology, Kolhapur
The design engages and promotes human interaction, it also responds to the sloping site. The built form is set on an X-Y axis creating a common central space that is used as an amphitheater. The axis of built form unifies the various diverse activities that take place while increasing the learning possibilities.
14. Bharati Vidyapeeth V.I.P guest house, Pune
Named as “A sculpture to live”, the residence has a sculpturesque external form which brings about a sense of closeness. The residence has a triple-height skylight central courtyard. The overall design has an interactive design and creates a very unique spatial experience.
15. Manasi & Shirish Beri’s Lake House, Andur
The lake house acts as a ‘pause’ from the everyday, fast-paced life. It acts as an energy refueling recharging node. The orientation of the house is set as such that it not only gives excellent views but also brings in good ventilation. This creates an open, holistic, unified space that helps connect people with people and with the surroundings.
